The Who

The VMware User Group (VMUG) is an independent, global, customer-led organization, created to maximize members’ use of VMware and partner solutions through knowledge sharing, training, collaboration, and events.

The South West VMware User Group is ran by volunteers with a passion around VMware products, technologies and the virtualisation industry in general.

These are left to right, Simon Eady, Michael Poore, Jeremy Bowman and myself. We are all bloggers and are working daily with virtualisation technologies.

And most important of all is YOU, without its members we are a bunch of geeks sat around talking to ourselves, what makes the VMUG so special is its fantastic variety of members contributing and attending the events.

The Why

I have written about my experience with the VMware User Group in the Past, but for me the user groups offers a fantastic opportunity to meet with like minded individuals who are dealing with the same technologies and problems as you day in day out. If you currently turn to the VMware communities and blogs when you have problems then come along and meet the people that are contributing and give a little back.

If that isn’t a good enough reason there is also a free lunch and free beers!

The Where

We have a fantastic venue in Bristol City Center, the M-Shed will be hosting us in the their full events suite. Full information on how to get there can be found here >> http://mshed.org/visiting/visitor-information/ the great news is there is a car park just behind and regular buses from the train station as well.

The Content

We are lucky enough to have some fantastic content and speakers for our very first South West VMware User Group, these include the European CTO of VMware Joe Baguley who will be kicking us off with a keynote presentation, Nathan Prisk from Falmouth University will be telling us all about his experience with VMware View in the community slot and Nutanix will be demonstrating their technology and how it could change your virtual infrastructure for good. As well as this we are just finalising some optional morning sessions including free VMware training with VMware Trainer, Blogger, Author and vExpert Mike Laverick.

A big thanks must goto Nutanix and 10Zig for sponsoring this first event as without them we would be sat outside in the cold with no food and no beer!
